When a Yawn Gets Loose

Today I have a book that shows kids the danger of when a yawn gets loose.  No doubt about it … yawns are catching and if you are trying to stay up all night they will always hunt you down.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram or by email so that you don’t miss a single tooth-gritting, feather tickling, and bell ringing technique to stop that yawn!

Title: Stop That Yawn!when a yawn gets loose stop that yawn

Author: Caron Levis

Target: Preschool-Grade 1

What this book is about:

Gabby is tired of bedtime.  She convinces her Grandma to take an evening trip to “Never Sleeping City” in hopes of keeping the party going.  But when Grandma lets a yawn slip, it is the beginning of the end.  One loose yawn makes its way around the city as bands, performers and even the mayor drift off into a peaceful slumber, despite Gabby’s attempts to stop them.  When she finally turns to the reader for help, well let’s just say yawns really are catching and no one immune, not the reader, and certainly not Gabby.  Soon Gabby and story listeners will be living out their fantasies in their dreams!

Why I love this book:

  • A book that gets everyone yawning is just what I needed when my kids were young.  I won’t lie, I have yawned after every reading of this book and looked longingly at my chair for a nap.  While the story is full of fun, the end result is heavy eyelids, really the results every parent wants in a bedtime story!
  • The illustrations by LeUyen Pham are wonderful.  Colorful and full of fun they are a lovely complement to the clever story and a highlight of the book.

Who this book is for:

Fun for all readers.  Can’t imagine a child not enjoying this one.  Trade it off at bedtime with Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book for yawns that are catching.

Final thoughts:

I’ve never known anyone to outrun a yawn …. yet.
