STEM Picture Book for Budding Scientists

Today I have a STEM picture book for budding scientists.  This is the third book in the series and adds to a growing list of potential future professions which include architect and inventor.  However, even if your child has different future aspirations, they will benefit from always having an inquisitive mind, which is celebrated in these picture book stories.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or by email so that you don’t miss a cool kid who gets to make a big mess all in the name of science!

Title: Ada Twist, ScientistAda Twist STEM picture book for budding scientists

Author: Andrea Beaty

Target: Preschool – Grade 2

Series: Yes

What this book is about:

Ada Twist is a young girl who wants to the know the Why? What? How? and When? of everything. Each question she has leads to two or three more. Chaos reigns as she digs deeper and deeper into her inquires, causing her parents to send her to the thinking chair. However, soon it is her parents who are doing the thinking as they help Ada in her quest to find the answers to her unlimited supply of questions and nurture her budding inner scientist.

Why I love this book:

  • First off the illustrations by David Roberts are fabulous. As he did in Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer, he gives us kids who are positively empowered and adorable all at the same time.
  • What kid doesn’t love a whole lot of chaos in the name of science? Ada is every parents dream child and nightmare all at the same time.
  • Nice book to pair with Stem activities. Love seeing girls pegged as the scientists.

Who this book is for:

If your kids love the other offerings this one is a great addition to the collection. Great companion book for science activities

Final thoughts:

While I loved this book, in my opinion is was probably the weakest offering of the three. I would like to have seen some more structured examples of the scientific principles incorporated into the story.
