New Offering from Stuart Gibbs

Today I have a new offering from Stuart Gibbs.  Gibbs is without a doubt one of those go to writers that just produces stories that kids want to read.  His latest book is no exception.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or by email so that you don’t miss a single story that keeps the action going  and kids engaged, a winning combination in my humble opinion!

Title: Charlie Thorne and the Last Equationnew offering from Stuart Gibbs Charlie Thorne

Author: Stuart Gibbs

Target: Grades 5-7

Series: This is the first book in a planned series

What this book is about:

Charlie Thorne is a genius who is on a full ride to University of Colorado.  She is worth millions and did I mention she is twelve years old.  The CIA recruits Charlie to find a long lost equation of Albert Einstein which he hid because it could either save or destroy the world.  Of course, the US is not the only country in search of said equation, and the hunt could put Charlie in perilous danger.

Why I love this book:

  • Without a doubt Stuart Gibbs can write a book full of action.  This new series keeps the intrigue going as each chapter ends on a cliffhanger, propelling the reader forward in a “I have to know what will happen next” moment.
  • I enjoyed learning a lot more about Einstein and Jerusalem, where a portion of the story takes place.  This book is full of fun facts and I imagine that the Mount Wilson Observatory will get a few more visitors because of its integral part in the plot.
  • I like a girl genius.  Kids will be fantasizing about having Charlie’s abilities and it’s fun to think a kid can be this capable and outsmart the adults around her.

Who this book is for:

Fans of Stuart Gibbs will appreciate this story.  Kids who enjoyed The Copernicus Legacy will also gravitate towards this book.  A great pick for kids who need lots of action/adventure in their stories.

Final thoughts:

Stuart Gibbs is a very reliable pick for kids.  He and Dan Gutman are always my go to authors who can really do no wrong.
