Title: Here Comes Teacher Cathere comes teacher cat make back to school fun

Author: Deborah Underwood

Target: Preschool – Grade 2

What this book is about:

Ms. Melba had to go to the doctor so she needs Cat to be the substitute teacher at Kitty School. Cat is not too thrilled with this idea. First he tries to nap during class time, and when that doesn’t work he searches the supply closet for ideas. Thankfully music, building and art projects abound but when Ms. Melba returns, Cat and the kittens attempt a speedy cleanup. Everything looks fine until Ms. Melba get a peek into her now extremely messy supply closet!

Why I love this book:

  • Cat has been a favorite of mine since Here Comes Easter Cat. He is just like my kids, unwilling to do anything helpful until coerced or guilted, and then he nails it!
  • Ok, my favorite illustration in the book is when Ms. Melba, yes a cat herself, returns to class with the dreaded cone of shame. Of course, every important visit to the doctor with my animals requires this getup so I had to giggle.
  • The comic timing of Cat is just perfect, making this a laugh out loud series. We own every book.

Who this book is for:

Wonderful read aloud for the first days of school but really anytime is Cat time. If your kids have loved the other books, this one will not disappoint.

Final thoughts:

Teachers rock!
