Captivating Early Readers

This year we had to say goodbye to Elephant and Piggie as Mo Willems retired his early reader series after 25 books.  It is so sad to think there will be no new ones on the horizon, until I had a chance to see that Elephant and Piggie are sharing their favorite books to read.  This new series, Elephant and Piggie Like Reading showcases some wonderful authors and illustrators who are writing books in the same easy to read format, and of course, full of humor.  I predict some captivating early readers will come out of this collaboration.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or by email so that you don’t miss a single book that has been endorsed by both Elephant and Piggie  Now those two really know how to recognize talent.  You can click on the book image or title to connect to Amazon.

Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! We Are Growing! by Laurie Keller

This book is literally about watching the grass grow!  In this story each blade of grass is excited because they are something special, either the tallest, the silliest or the curliest.  Poor Walt can’t come up with something that makes him unique.  However, when the lawnmower drives through the grass, let’s just say everything changes.

Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! The Cookie Fiasco by Dan Santat

In this story kids get exposed to early math concepts and getting along.  What are four animals to do when there are only three cookies?  Hippo thinks they should allocate the cookies based on the size of the animals.  The smaller animals are on to his game.  Hippo is so nervous about the situation that he keeps breaking the cookies until there are 12 pieces, which surprise, surprise can be evenly divided by 4 animals.  Now what are they going to do about the 3 glasses of milk?
