Adorable Picture Book Alert

Today I have an adorable picture book alert.  This is one of those stories that would have enchanted me as a little girl and I know my daughter would have made me read over and over again.  The best part is that I would have been totally willing!

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram or by email so that you don’t miss a single post where Dr. Pegs takes on some serious stuffing, button, and tangled string emergencies to save the day!

Title: The Doll Hospital

Author: Kallie George

Target: Preschool – Kindergarten

What this book is about:

Dr. Pegs thinks it will be a slow day at the doll hospital, sorting buttons.  Boy is she mistaken! First Portia, the porcelain doll, must have a break repaired.   Second, a stuffed doll has a tummy ache.  Third, a talking baby must have her string untangled.  Fourth … well, you get the picture.  There is so much to do that Dr. Pegs must call in the nesting dolls for help, but with lots of folks on the case, everyone is repaired and tucked in for the night.  Success!

Why I love this book:

  • First off the illustrations by Sara Gillingham are so charming.  The colors are vibrant but not too bright, and so appealing.  It is seriously some cuteness without any saccharine.
  • I love the repetition of the text as new patients arrive.  With a “ding-a-ling-a ling” and a reciting of the injuries, younger children will easily follow the sequence of the story and be able to predict what is coming next.

Who this book is for:

Great for all kids.  The simple text makes this one easy to read aloud and solicit involvement from the listener.

Final thoughts:

The only thing stopping me from giving this five stars was that Dr. Peg seems to leave all the work to the nesting nurses.  Would have like to see her cure a patient or two.
