Thrilling Adventure with Chocolate and Crocodiles

Today I have a book about a boy king, a castle with secret passages and an evil next door neighbor which can only lead to a thrilling adventure with chocolate and crocodiles of course.  Prepare to laugh as our boy king works to defeat the nefarious Emperor Nurbison and show off his flashypants.  What more could a kid want?

Title: King Flashypants and the Evil Emperorthrilling adventure with chocolate and crocodiles king flashy pants

Author: Andy Riley

Target: Grades 2-4

Series: This is the first book in a planned series

What this book is about:

King Edwin is just nine years old, but he loves to spend his pocket money on chocolate for the peasants. Just to note these are happy peasants, not the kind who are miserable and hungry. Since Edwin is only nine, he doesn’t budget his money well and when his piggy bank literally runs dry (by literally I mean an actual giant ceramic pig that holds his money that is empty) the Evil Emperor from the kingdom next store sees a chance to take over Edwin’s land. Edwin must stop him as he tries to outwit the nefarious Emperor Nurbison and save his subjects from an actual life of misery.

Why I love this book:

  • This one has some great dry humor that is so fun. Other than the Stick Your Toes Up Your Nose song, most of the laughs are not of the gross variety but they are plentiful. Clever observations will absolutely induce giggles.
  • I liked the illustrations throughout the book. They are large, fanciful and quite amusing.

Who this book is for:

Great for fans of funny books or kids who like The Bad Guys series. Good pick for reluctant readers because of the large print and illustrations.

Final thoughts:

Who can resist a king in flashy pants?
