Picture Book About Food

I discovered this picture book about food the other day and it absolutely charmed me.  I love the play on words, the interesting meal selections and the playful tone.  It may just give your kids a more open mind when it comes to food selection, but at the very least it will expand their knowledge of the food that is out there.

Title: Can I Eat That? Can I eat that picture book food

Author: Joshua David Stein

Target: Preschool – Grade 2

What this book is about:

This book is a wonderful way to demystify unusual and sometimes everyday food for kids. Can they eat a sea urchin? Why yes they can! A tornado? Perhaps not, but a tonnato and tournedos are a go! If there is BacON is there BacOFF? And do chickens really have fingers? All these questions and more are cleverly posed to you and your kids!

Why I love this book:

  • First off the illustrations by Julia Rothman are absolutely gorgeous. Her style is amusing and clever and her artwork pairs well with the humor and lightheartedness of the story.
  • This book is such a playful way to talk to your kids about a variety of food. I love the list of items at the back of the book where children decide if they can eat each one or not. What a fun and interactive way to conclude this delightful book.

Who this book is for:

Great for any kid and a wonderfully interactive book to enjoy with parents.

Final thoughts:

Yes I will eat the panettone, but perhaps not the underpants!
