Laugh Out Loud Early Reader

I love it when I find a laugh out loud early reader.  These books are the gateway to getting your kids to love reading and I so appreciate it when their hard work learning sight words and sounding things out gives them the reward of a good side splitting chuckle.  I mean who doesn’t want to keep reading after that?

Title: Fun with Ed and FredFun with Ed and Fred laugh out loud early reader

Author: Kevin Bolger

Target: Kindergarten – Grade 1

Series: No

What this book is about:

In this early reader, kids are treated to adventures of Ed and Fred. Of course Ed gets all the good things life has to offer. He plays at the beach, swims, travels and zooms around in his car. Fred on the other hand gets no trips, a very bad dog and a series of mishaps that leave him battered and bruised. When Fred finally demands to take Ed’s turn and be the recipient of the good stuff, he becomes the target of a monster. Poor Fred!

Why I love this book:

  • Writing an entertaining story while letting kids practice sight words is certainly not an easy task, but you wouldn’t know it after reading this book. Funny is name of the game and the author and illustrator Ben Hodson makes reading a delight with this early reader.
  • Kids can get frustrated when they are learning to read, and this book will make their efforts well worth it. I love it when the rewards of reading are laugh out loud moments!
  • I enjoyed that this book is fun to read multiple times. Plenty of scenarios and illustrations make this story one kids will enjoy over and over as they master the vocabulary.

Who this book is for:

Great for kids just learning to read who are tackling books like Fly Guy or Pete the Cat.

Final thoughts:

I have another book by this author on my TBR list which I must push up the chain. I can’t wait to dive into some of his other early readers.
