Hilarious Science Fiction Book for Kids

Today I have a hilarious science fiction book for kids.  It is not often I put a humorous adjective along with science fiction but in this case, it is well warranted.  I mean a kid who is stuck wearing tin foil underpants to stop a locating transmitter can’t help but elicit giggles from the reader.  Science fiction readers get ready for a wild ride.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or by email so that you don’t miss a single story were help is found by locating a giant toilet sculpture!  I mean you have to help “flush” out the bad guy.

Title: Sven Carter & the Trashmouth Effecthilarious science fiction book for kids sven carter

Author: Rob Vlock

Target: Grades 4-6

Series: This is the first book in a planned series

What this book is about:

Sven has always been a little off. He earned the nickname trashmouth because he can’t seem to stop himself from licking the most disgusting things. But when he has a terrible wipeout on his bike and his arm fall off (and then reattaches itself!!!) Sven learns he is not a kid but a Tick, a machine/human hybrid that is here to wipe out the human race. The only problem is that Sven loves the human race. But can he override his programming?

Why I love this book:

  • This book is silly and fast paced so I was entertained from the very start. This is a science fiction story which is really not a genre I enjoy but I still liked it, which is saying a lot! The author uses cliffhangers for lots of his chapter endings so I always read more than I intended. Yes, I am a sucker for a plot device.
  • Tin foil underpants and a giant toilet sculpture only begin to touch on the goofy and gross stuff in this book, so it will appeal to most readers.
  • I loved that the female character Alicia is a tough chick who can prevail in hand to hand combat. Sven and his friend Will are sensitive kids and I was rooting for them the whole way.

Who this book is for:

Great for kids who enjoy science fiction or kids who just like silly books. Reminded me a bit of the book The Forgetting Machine so if your kids liked that one this is a good choice.

Final thoughts:

It is not often that a science fiction book has me hooked from the first chapter.
