Daily Life Around the World

Today I have a picture book that shares daily life around the world.  Seven children from countries such as Uganda, Iran and Peru are profiled in their everyday activities.  Readers will get to see how their lives differ and resemble families from other cultures.  Given the problems in the world today, it is a wonderful way to open the door to understanding.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and by email so that you don’t miss a single book that will help make your children global citizens.

Title: This Is How We Do Itdaily life around the world this is how we do it

Author: Matt Lamothe

Target: Kindergarten – Grade 4

What this book is about:

This book looks at a day in the lives of seven kids from around the world. The reader gets to see what their homes look like, what they wear to school, how they get to school and even what they eat for lunch. From jump rope in Uganda to rock throwing contests in Italy, kids will see how their counterparts play around the world. Now who’s up from some grilled cod for breakfast?

Why I love this book:

  • I truly appreciate books that allow kids to see a reality that is not their own. They cannot begin to see their place in the world without understanding how other kids live their day to day lives. They will be surprised at both the similarities and the differences!
  • The illustrations are absolutely charming and serve to highlight how in the end we are more alike than different.
  • I absolutely adored the “Meet The Families” section at the back of the book. The author used actual families to create his daily accounts and their photographs are included.

Who this book is for:

Great for all kids. Reminds me of What the World Eats, one of my favorite books for illustrating the stark differences between the food that is consumed around the world and a huge hit with my kids.

Final thoughts:

Never miss an opportunity to help you child gain insights to how their lives both differ and resemble other children around the globe.
