Can a Bad Seed Ever Be Good?

Today I have a book that answers the age-old question, “Can a bad seed ever be good?”  I don’t want to spoil the ending but … YES!  It isn’t so easy after our seed drops out of the sunflower.  There is that incident at the baseball game and life under the bleachers which is less than ideal, but our seed can come back from that.  You just have to believe.

Don’t forget to follow One Great Book on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or by email so that you don’t miss a single story of redemption.  And you thought picture books were only about cute fuzzy kitties!

Title: The Bad Seedcan a bad seed ever be good the bad seed

Author: Jory John

Target: Preschool – Grade 2

What this book is about:

This book is about a bad seed. Yup, literally a very bad seed. He doesn’t put things back where they belong, he lies, and he cuts in line. Terrible stuff! But when you hear his story from the innocence of his beginnings in a sunflower to the dark life under the baseball bleachers, you begin to understand. However, as luck would have it our seed has decided he wants to change his ways. He is ready to be happy. So he is working on his bad habits. He may not always get it right, but he keeps trying and now he is a seed that isn’t all that bad anymore.

Why I love this book:

  • Great messages abound in this funny story. Bad seeds are often times the product of things we can’t see, a good lesson to remember. You can always change your ways so don’t think you’re stuck being bad. Being nice really does make you happy inside. Also, don’t forget we all hear the things others are saying about us. The best part is that this book is never preachy even though it is full of clever advice.
  • Fabulous illustrations by Pete Oswald. I think after this book we will be seeing more of this talented illustrator. He is able to do for the bad seed what Eric Wright did for bacon and cupcake.

Who this book is for:

Great for all kids. The book is a wonderful read aloud with plenty of humor and laugh out loud moments.

Final thoughts:

This book will speak to bad seeds everywhere.
